The South Omo Valley is one of the most culturally diverse regions in Ethiopia, home to numerous indigenous tribes with unique traditions, lifestyles, and colorful ceremonies. This 5-day tour takes you deep into the heart of the Omo Valley, where you will experience the customs, rituals, and daily lives of tribes such as the Hamar, Mursi, Karo, and Dassanech. With breathtaking landscapes, traditional villages, and local markets, this journey provides an unforgettable cultural immersion.

Day 1 :

Arrival in Arba Minch – Drive to Jinka

Arrive in Arba Minch (morning flight from Addis Ababa recommended).
Meet your guide and drive to Jinka, the gateway to the Omo Valley (approx. 5-6 hours drive).
En route, visit the Ari people, known for their pottery and agriculture.
Overnight stay in a hotel/lodge in Jinka.

Day 2 :

Jinka – Mago National Park – Mursi Tribe – Turmi

Early morning drive to Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe, famous for their women’s lip plates and body scarification.
Learn about their unique customs and traditions.
Continue to Turmi, home of the Hamar people, known for their intricate hairstyles and the famous bull-jumping ceremony.
If available, witness the bull-jumping rite, a significant initiation for young men.
Overnight stay in a lodge/campsite in Turmi.

Day 3 :

Turmi – Karo Tribe – Turmi

Morning excursion to visit the Karo people, renowned for their elaborate body painting and decorative scarification.
Explore their villages along the Omo River and witness their artistic expressions.
Return to Turmi and visit a local Hamar village for an in-depth cultural experience.
Overnight stay in a lodge/campsite in Turmi.

Day 4 :

Turmi – Omorate (Dassanech Tribe) – Arba Minch

Drive to Omorate near the Kenya border to visit the Dassanech people, who have a semi-nomadic lifestyle.
Cross the Omo River by traditional canoe to explore their village.
Return to Turmi for lunch, then drive back to Arba Minch, enjoying scenic views along the way.
Overnight stay in a hotel/lodge in Arba Minch.

Day 5 :

Arba Minch – Dorze Village – Addis Ababa (Flight)

Visit the Dorze people, known for their beehive-shaped huts and exceptional weaving skills.
Explore their cultural practices and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Transfer to Arba Minch airport for a flight back to Addis Ababa.
Optional: Enjoy a farewell traditional dinner with cultural music and dance in Addis Ababa.
